We Died in Ten Seconds, Then Played the Best Match of Our Lives: Our Apex Legends Redemption Arc
A Split Vision recap: couple co-op gaming, South African banter, and the one match that made the whole session worth it
Some Apex Legends sessions just aren’t meant to be. You drop, you die, you respawn into the queue, and you accept your fate. That was supposed to be this entire video.
Instead, game two turned into one of the best matches we’ve ever played together — and it’s exactly why we had to break it down for you.
Welcome back to another Split Vision recap, where we turn our real co-op gameplay (chaos, arguments, and all) into stories you can actually enjoy, even if you weren’t watching live.
Game One: Over Before It Started
No sugarcoating it — our first drop was rough. We were down almost immediately, no real fight, no story to tell. If that had been the whole video, there wouldn’t be a blog post. Sometimes Apex just does that to you, and the only real move is to queue up again and hope the next one goes better.
It did. A lot better.
Game Two: The Loot Argument, As Always
Before the real fireworks started, there was time for the one argument every gaming couple has on repeat:
“This is the problem when you play RPGs, man. Loot.”
One of us wanted to loot every bin in sight. The other just wanted to get into the fight. Apex isn’t an RPG, but try telling that to someone still counting shield cells while a squad rotates in behind them.
And rotate in they did.
Third-Partied. Again.
If you’ve played Apex Legends for more than a week, you already know the golden rule: you are always, eventually, going to get third-partied. It’s practically part of the game design at this point — you commit to one fight, and a second squad rotates in to clean up whoever’s left standing.
That’s exactly what happened here. “Someone’s behind us” is basically our shorthand for it at this point — every match, without fail, there’s another team we didn’t see, usually right as we’re mid-loot, mid-heal, or mid-fight with someone else entirely. This time it kicked off the tensest stretch of the whole match: scattered callouts, “are they in there?”, “did they go to the top?” — the kind of chaos that comes from getting third-partied and somehow not immediately dying to it.
The Sweatiest Drop of the Video
This was the fight that made the whole session worth uploading. Caught out, nearly wiped, holding on by a thread — and somehow clutching it anyway. Mid-fight, the banter got just as intense as the gunfight itself:
“You just wanna drown points into the toilet.” “What do you mean? Not even in diamond lobbies do you jump on a horde.”
Translation: flushing your hard-earned ranked points down the toilet by taking a reckless fight solo, versus playing it safe. One of us wanted to push the fight alone, the other thought that was a genuinely terrible idea. That split-second disagreement is exactly the kind of thing that makes or breaks a squad — and somehow, this time, it worked in our favor.
Who Actually Got the Kill?
No Apex match is complete without the most sacred argument in multiplayer gaming: “Did you get that kill or did they take it from me?”
Kill credit disputes have ended friendships. Ours survived — barely — but the jury’s still out on who actually deserves that elimination. (For the record: it was probably a team effort. We’re still investigating.)
Why One Good Match Is Enough
This is the honest truth about Split Vision: we’re not going fifteen kills a game or running a flawless comp. Most sessions look like our game one — quick, unremarkable, over before it starts. But every so often, one match reminds us why we keep queuing up together: the arguments, the panic, the clutch plays we somehow pull off despite ourselves.
